The Brand

Created by Nohemí Chávez Contreras, the visionary brand MODA LIBRE, quite literally translates to “Moda” meaning “Fashion” or “In the Manner Of” and “Libre” meaning “The State of Being Free” in Spanish.

Rooted in the complex layers that define Mexican identity, MODA LIBRE is an homage to the resilience, splendor, and depth of a culture that has always lived between light and shadow. The brand embraces the unconventional and with a bold spirit, reimagines high fashion by advocating for the reclamation of culture and space through imagination and vision— while exuding an unapologetic pride in our roots.

About the Creator 

Nohemí Chávez Contreras is an innovative fashion designer, artist educator and entrepreneur from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She completed her B.A. in Fashion Design at Mount Mary University in 2023. Nohemí is a first generation American, from Guanajuato, Mexico. Her work embraces resilience and resourcefulness reviving generational Mexican traditions and developing them through a contemporary fashion context. 

Nohemí launched the brand MODA LIBRE as a return to indigenous wisdom, reimagining high fashion by infusing it with the soulful essence of Mexican culture and intergenerational connection. Each piece fosters artistic interpretations that are bold, seductive, and dramatic while embodying the spirit of inter generational Mexican aesthetics.
